Digital prints entered the market in the early ‘90s and everybody thought this thing is huge, that it will break the market. It brought personal printers in our homes making our lives easier and furthermore opened a new perspective on the printing business. Technologically speaking the digital prints and presses have advanced very much in our days being a serious contester to offset printing, this business evolved in just several years to $61 billion throughout the world.

All this being said digital prints didn’t break the market and the highest expectations never happened because digital prints are squeezed between offset printing which is cheaper and color laser printers or workgroup printers which are better. Challenging is the fact digital prints needs another set of applications and a new program infrastructure, many say that stepping from offset to digital printing is not so difficult but problems are deeper that they look.

Investing in digital prints can be a huge success but everything depends on the team that manages the project, you can win a fortune but also you can lose even the investment you made. Digital printing is not a pay and plug thing and this fact is one thing that makes it so special. Developing and learning all the new possibilities is a must if you want to become digital print proficient.

With no extra-care in planning everything you could see your digital print business fall sooner than you have ever thought, but a well planned marketing campaign could have wealthy returns. A good marketer once said that success in sales is all about creating the demand on the market, so creating the demand will imply guaranteed success and assured victory on the digital print market. We’ve got the digital camera, the digital photo frame, the digital photo album, why not a digital print? Little time remains before we see it in all our homes.

Some analysts are expecting Kodak to make a decisive move in the digital prints field, as everybody knows Kodak is no easy player; and they want a big slice from the digital prints market. All this being said we’ll wait for the future to confirm the ascendance of digital prints, the stagnations or even worse the decline which personally I find it easy to believe. This market has a great potential and like all major things needs a decisive first step to help the industry start working.
